Who is Leong Mun Yee?

I have to admit that I know very little about Malaysia. This Asian nation is home to talented swimmers and divers as well. Leong Mun Yee is a synchronized diver that combines skill, talent, and beauty. I’ll also mention about her partner Pandelela Rinong Pamg or Rinong. Yes, those are very long names. Mun Yee entered the world on December 4, 1984. She stands at 163 centimeters tall.

So far Mun Yee has been a part of three Olympic Games. The 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia was her first one. She also took part in the 2004 Athens Games and the 2008 Games in Beijing.

Her biggest taste of success was during the 2009 World Championships where she earned a bronze medal in the 10 meter synchronized diving event. This was with partner Pandelela Rinong.

In 2002 at the Busan Games, Mun Yee won a bronze medal in the 3 meter synchronized diving event with Farah Begum Abdullah. Four years later during the 2006 Asian games in Doha, Mun Yee won an individual bronze medal in the 3 meter diving. She followed that up with another bronze medal during the 3 meter synchronized diving event. In the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, she won a silver medal in the 3 meter synchronized diving event. This was with partner Yan Yee NG. In the 10 meter synchronized diving event, she won another silver medal. But this one was accomplished with Pandelela Rinong. To finish off 2010, this pair of divers won another silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. In 2011, Pandelela Rinong and Mun Yee would team up again for the 10 meter synchronized final in the FINA Diving Championships.

Most recently at the FINA diving World Series in Mexico, the pair got a fifth place finish in the 10 meter synchronized event. But they finished in third overall in what is called this four leg series. They got a total of 78 points becoming the first local pairs to do this. They will both compete in the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics in London. The photo of Mun Yee smiling is from http://www.timeoutkl.com. I have also added two more photos of her and these are from http://fakarepain.com/. And as a special bonus for my readers, I have included a photo of Leong Mun Yee. But instead of being in her swimsuit, she is in a gorgeous blue dress. That one is from https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2174578/all.

Mun Yee would once again take part in the Commonwealth Games in 2014. She would take part in the 10 meter synchronized diving event with her partner Cheong Jun Hoong.

  2. […] Sari Ambarwati is probably not a name that most people around the world may be familiar with. She is a female diver from Indonesia. There are so many countries in the world and Indonesia usually ends up being described in very negative terms. Many people will think of political and social unrest when they think of Indonesia. But this large Southeastern Asian nation also has good things in it. One of these good things is that during the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, a diving competition took place. And Sari Ambarwati Suprihatin became the athlete that participated for her country during these games in diving. She finished in 10th place during the Women’s 3 meter springboard final. I know that this is a hard name for most people to pronounce but that’s life I guess. Prior to this event, she took part in the 3 meter synchronized diving preliminary competition during the 2007 FINA World Championships in Melbourne Australia. She was paired with Nani Suryani Wulansari. In the 2010 Asian Games, her last dive was very sub par. I have seen the entire coverage of that diving competition. And that’s how I first heard about Sari. In the synchronized 3 meter springboard event with partner Maria Natalie Dinda, she got a 6th place finish. At the 26th Southeast Asian Games in November 2011 Ambarwati got a bronze medal in the 3 meter springboard diving event. She followed up that victory with a silver medal in the 10 meter synchronized platform event with partner Della Dinasari. There isn’t too much more information about Sari that I could find. By posting this information I hope to open up people’s minds and get them to realize that Indonesia should be recognized for positive events such as this. Sari Ambarwati is really, really pretty and I wish her the very best in her diving career and in life. For more information about other athletes from Southeast Asia, check out my post about Leong Mun Yee. […]
