It is now official that the AKB48 Theater in Akihabara has now welcomed its one-millionth visitor as of February 25, 2015! AKB48 has set so many milestones for their singles and they have now even set a milestone for the number of visitors. The theater has a capacity of 250 and there were only nine people that were in attendance during the group’s opening performance. It has now been 3,367 days since the AKB48 Theater opened its doors on December 8, 2005. That was also the day that former AKB48 singer Atsuko Maeda known as Acchan made her debut with the group. Up until this point there have been 471 members that have stood on the stage of AKB48 Theater. This includes SDN48, Baito AKB and Otona AKB. AKB48 member Mayu Watanabe has a song called Otona Jellybeans. It is a really terrific song to listen to and I recommend any fan of AKB48 to check it out. The person that became the one-millionth visitor is a 19 year-old female college student from Osaka. It was at 6:25 PM that she was greeted at the entrance by Tomonobu Togasaki (the first theater manager), Hiroshi Yuasa (the current theater manager) and current Team K captain Yui Yokoyama. The lucky audience member received an “AKB48 Theater free lifetime pass ticket” from Yokoyama. She has never been to a live AKB48 Theater performance and it as her first time to visit this venue. Yokoyama who will become the next General Manager of AKB48 after the departure of Minami Takahashi said that AKB48 will try their best and she encouraged the fans to continue supporting the group.
According to a representative, audience members who attend theater performances by AKB48 and SDN48 and the other visits by AKB48’s other groups are counted. But those people who only visit the AKB48 Theater, its lobby or are a customer in the AKB48 Café are not counted as people who give to being members of the real audience.
