Megumi Taneda is a female swimmer from Japan. She was born on September 20, 1986 in the city of Sapporo. Sapporo is located on the island of Hokkaido. She is listed at five feet and four inches and weighs 126 pounds.[1] Her earliest success came in 2005 in the Women’s 200 meter breaststroke in Izmir, Turkey. What swimming stroke did Megumi Taneda specialize in?

She specialized in the breaststroke. As of 2008, she is a student at Kanagawa University in the city of Kanagawa. She is studying economics.[2] In the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, she finished 17th in the women’s 100 meter breaststroke according to the final standings. She also finished 8th in the women’s 200 meter breaststroke according to the final standings. Here are some of her other results from the 2008 Olympics:

Women’s 200 meter breaststroke first round: 2nd place

Women’s 200 meter breaststroke semi final round: 4th place

Women’s 100 meter breaststroke first round: 5th place[3]

Megumi Taneda was also successful in her home country of Japan

Prior to the Olympics in 2008, Taneda also won the women’s 200 meter breaststroke final at the Japan National Swimming Championships in Tokyo on April 20, 2008. But her biggest success was when she also won the women’s 100 meter breaststroke at this same event. That victory qualified her for the Beijing Olympics.[4]

I have always been interested in many things about Japan and this is my motivation for writing this article. It was also my first article about an athlete when I wrote about Taneda back in 2011. Whatever Megumi Taneda does in the future, I wish her all the best in her athletic career and in life. Here are a few photos of this Japanese swimmer. Note: it is 2016 as I write this and Taneda now has a degree in economics.
